The
Freedom Machine
Tibby's would like to introduce
a new type of electric wheelchair. We developed the Freedom
machine for our 5 year old daughter with Spinal Muscular Atrophy. We were
very outdoor people until this happened. We did enjoy going to the beach,
camping. hiking, skiing and skating. We were unable to do most of these
activities as a family, due to Tonya's confinement. We also have had problems
getting her involved with most outside activities, due to this confinement.
We did not like seeing her being set off to the side and not being able
to participate in the most simple of activities.
Tibby's has researched this problem and come up
with a chair that can be used almost anywhere our child would like to go
to enable total interaction with her peers. This has completely switched
the roles, as she is now in the centre of activities.
Tibby's has developed, designed and manufactured
an electric powered wheelchair for the physically handicapped of any age
and disability. No one is restricted from this chair. Tibby's will be referring
to this product as FREEDOM
throughout this introduction. Tibby's has decided to name this product
FREEDOM because
freedom is what it has accomplished. It gives total freedom to all concerned.
Children, adults. parents, care givers and anyone that may be involved
with the persons needing this chair.
FREEDOM is very
versatile compared to anything on today’s market.
FREEDOM was developed
in the spring of 1992 and has been tested with a wide variety and severity
of physically handicapped persons, ranging in age from 3 to 70 and in weight
from 35 pounds to 255 pounds.
FREEDOM has literally
been put through the wringer, by children and adults alike.
FREEDOM is genuinely
essential as it can be driven off-road, in essence it is to be used on
uneven ground etc: beach sand gravel river rock. snow and ice.
FREEDOM can be used
in any kind of weather as it is all covered and the elements can not harm
its operation.
FREEDOM is equipped
with a soft top and a hard top to provide protection from the sun, rain
and snow.
FREEDOM can go into
approx. 12 inches of water, which enables the user to go fishing and wading.
The user is not restricted to paved streets and sidewalks, they can also
go to rugged parks where it is very unsafe for present products on today’s
market.
FREEDOM is equipped
with deflector bars to stop injury if the chair is run under trees etc.
Stability is a major bonus as there is a low centre of gravity which means
no chance of tipping over, when operated properly.
FREEDOM can be driven
up an incline until the bumper. which is equipped with wheelie bars, hits
the ground preventing roll-over.
FREEDOM is also
equipped with head and taillights. There are other options such as horns,
rear view mirrors, stereos, air cooling and heating systems depending on
the wants and the needs of the user.
FREEDOM is a growing
chair. The body shell and deflector bars are the only change needed. This
enables growing persons to have only a body change swap in order to refit
their present chair
FREEDOM is fitted
around the legs for more protection and safety precaution, as many physically
handicapped persons have no feeling in their lower extremities. All chairs
are equipped with full five point harness seat belts.
To enter FREEDOM,
the whole body and guards lift forward, like a funny car, which enables
a clear path into the cockpit area. In the seat, an automatic lifting apparatus
enables easy transfer or entry in and out of the chair.
FREEDOM has rear
wheel independent air-ride suspension and front wheel air-ride suspension.
The seat has air-ride pendulum suspension which will absorb a high centered
impact or a minor forward and reverse impact. With all around wheel suspension
there is minimal jarring and bumping. There are three wheels for maximum
maneuverability. The top speed is approximately 6 miles per hour. At this
speed, there is no worry of getting the chair bouncing and causing loss
of control.
FREEDOM is a "Green"
Machine. There is no noise pollution and also, (as you may have noticed
on the video at the beach) (Video available)
FREEDOM will not
sink into soft ground and leave large tracks. In fact the tracks left by
FREEDOM are less
than the tracks left by an adult man.
FREEDOM is powered
by sealed batteries. so there is no harm of spillage.
The operation time under normal conditions, between
charges is six to eight hours or more, depending on the use, for example:
hill climbing 6 hours, beach use 8 hours. FREEDOM
is supplied with an overnight charging system.
FREEDOM is adaptable
to any kind of controls, ie: joystick, sip n puff, head controls etc. Persons
with minimal to no upper- or lower strength can operate FREEDOM
by themselves.
FREEDOM has been
designed with minimum maintenance and repair requirements. All parts used
are of the finest materials and construction available. Most of FREEDOM’S
parts may be fixed by yourself or taken to a local garage to have the parts
replaced.
FREEDOM is built
with aircraft quality aluminum for light-weight strength and durability.
FREEDOM can be transported
in a van, truck or tilt trailer, which Tibby's has also developed. With
batteries removed FREEDOM
can be loaded by a single man.
Maximum life of your present indoor chair will
be extended as you will no longer be using this chair for purposes beyond
its design.
FREEDOM will satisfy
the needs of all ages from young to old and all physical disabilities enabling
total freedom to go almost anywhere the average able bodied person could
go.
A video on the FREEDOM
machine is available at minimal cost.
